New Doggie DayCare in Madrona

There is a new doggie daycare in town, and it’s taking over the old Facts newspaper space! The Facts Newspaper, the first African American oriented newspaper to circulate the northwest had previously occupied the office space on the corner of Martin Luther King and E Cherry St for years. After they vacated the building was torn down and replaced by the simple structure that stands today, which has also been vacant for sometime, leaving passersby curious as to what will go in the space next.

The secrets out! We’ve got a snapshot of the sign on their window, and PLAY, a family run doggie daycare start up by a previous dog walking company is coming to the neighborhood in August to take care of your furry friends while you’re at work. Daycare service is around $6/hr, up to 5hrs a day, and they’ll even pick your dog up for daycare if you want to mark one thing off the list to do in the morning. They do doggie baths as well, should you want your pup to come home smelling squeaky clean. For more information on PLAY’s services visit their website.

Police Find Man Convicted of Killing Madrona Father

This news may come a little delayed, as the story was in Saturday’s Seattle Times, but nonetheless is still important to broadcast that police have found the man who is responsible for shooting Justin Ferrari on May 24th. According to the Seattle Times, the shooter, Andrew Jermain Patterson, was outside of a corner store with others when one of then men insulted him; in response he pulled out a gun and fired it, according to King County Superior Court findings.

He had aimed at the man who insulted him, but hit Ferrari who was in his van with his parents and children nearby. Police used information from a Metro bus surveillance camera as well as cellphone data from one of the passengers, and court warranted information from a stolen ORCA card used by Patterson to track him down to Federal Way, and issue a warrant for arrest when he was scheduled to appear in court on a completely different domestic violence account. Patterson is being held at King County Jail on $2 million bail, for more information on his trial visit the Seattle Times.

St ThereseCourtesy St. Therese Parish

This past Sunday was the last for Father Stephen Okumu (pictured) as St. Therese Pastor.  Father Stephen, as most parishioners call him, has been with St. Therese for the last five years.  He is leaving to become the Pastor of St. Bridget’s in Laurelhurst.

Father Charles Kanai has come to Madrona to replaced Father Stephen and Father Kanai is assisted by Deacon Greg McNabb who has been with St. Therese for the last several years.  Both Father Charles Kanai and Deacon Greg will also serve Immaculate Conception located in the Seattle Central District.  While no changes in mass times are expected in the immediate future, changes may occur down the road since both Catholic Churches have the same mass schedule.  In the interim, guest priests will assist to keep the current mass schedule.
