Coyote Sighting in Madrona

Seattle CoyoteI wrote last week on Madrona Moms about a coyote I saw crossing Lake Washington Boulevard at 32nd Avenue up by the fire station.  I was heading down 32nd Avenue towards Madrona when I saw the coyote.  I called animal control and they told me no one comes to capture or move wild animals of this nature.  They did tell me that coyotes are very fearful of humans and will avoid us, but they do look for an easy food source so be sure to keep your cats inside.

Since my post on Madrona Moms, several other Madrona residents have detailed seeing coyotes in the area: on Madrona Drive, near James and 35th Avenue, 26th and East John, etc.  One person even posted a map of coyote sightings in the Seattle area.

UPDATE:  The comments on Madrona Moms keep coming about the coyote sightings with concerns of safety, etc.  Here is a link to PAWS that talks more about coyotes with a lot of good information about their habits, what they eat, how to protect your animals, etc.

Bindi In, Full Tilt Out at Pritty Boys Pizza

Pritty Boys PizzaI recently wrote how the Madrona neighborhood may be the king (or queen) of Seattle when it comes to ice cream – with everything from pints sold at Cupcake Royale, to ice cream sundaes at St. Clouds, to soft serve at the Madrona Market, and of course Molly Moon’s – but one of the factors leading me to this claim was Full Tilt ice cream at Pritty Boys Pizza.  Well, with the logjam of ice cream options, it looks like Pritty Boys has changed course.  So out with Full Tilt, and in with Bindi.  So if you are in Madrona and looking for a different dessert option, go by Pritty Boys and check it out.

Let There Be Rain! Madrona and Seattle Soaked

Madison Valley ParkThe rain kept coming and coming today, and Madrona and Seattle got soaked.  A record rainfall for November 19th in Seattle beat the record for the day set in 1962.  Over 1.49 inches of rain at Seatac today and here in Madrona the evidence of the mighty rainfall could be seen just down the street.  The park in Madison Valley near the corner of 30th and John was filling with rain water.  Tonight there are stars in the sky giving us a short break, but more rain is coming.

Slow Down or Pay $189

Seattle Schools

If you missed the article in the Seattle Times the other day, pay attention because it could cost you $189.  The City of Seattle is adding new cameras to snap pictures of school-zone speeders near four schools. The cameras, at least for the time being, will only be used to catch speeders when the school-zone beacons are flashing for motorist to slow to 20 MPH.  If they catch you, the ticket will automatically be mailed to the register owner of the car.

While there are cameras by four Seattle schools, the only one close to Madrona, Leschi, and Mt. Baker is Thurgood Marshall Elementary located in Judkins.  Thurgood Marshall is just off of Martin Luther King Jr. Way as it goes over the I-90 tunnel so anyone driving along Martin Luther King Jr. Way in that area during school hours better slow down or smile because you’re on Candid Camera.

Madrona Real Estate Sales are Heating Up

Seattle real estate has been strong this year but I have noticed an uptick on Madrona home sales this last month or two.  The Madrona neighborhood has had 31 sales so far this year, but there are 13 homes pending in Madrona right now.  If all of the current pending homes close before the year-end, Madrona real estate will see nearly 30% of the year’s home sales close in the last month and a half of the year.  That is impressive especially since November and December are traditionally slow months for closings in the Seattle real estate market.  To make the 13 pending homes even more impressive is almost half of them (6) went under contract within 2 weeks of being on the market and many of those had multiple offers.  For example, another real estate agent at Ewing and Clark, Vincent Mullally, had a Madrona home for sale on 32nd Ave near Cherry that went pending after 7 days on the market with multiple parties interested in the home.  In addition, I recently had a Madison Valley home for sale just on the other side of Martin Luther King Jr Way.  That home also had multiple parties interested and that home went pending after being on the market for 8 days.

The Madrona real estate market is defintely strong right now.  If you want to learn more, then feel free to contact me, Kristine Losh, with any real estate question.  I can assist you in finding a Madrona home to purchase, selling your current home, or finding you a local Seattle rental.

Bike Lane Added to Madrona Drive to 34th Avenue

East Denny WayIf you been driving around Madrona along 34th Avenue, East Denny, and/or Madrona Drive you have noticed the temporary markings for the new bicycle lanes.  Well, Seattle Department of Transportation have the new permanent markings for the lanes on the streets now.  It looks pretty good, but I would not want to open my driver’s side door if I was parked on the east-side of the street where 34th Avenue meet East Denny Way – it is tight and there is little visibility.  Nevertheless, bicycles will now have more room whether traveling from Madrona, Denny Blaine or Leschi when coming up the steep hill on Madrona Drive, along East Denny, and up the incline on 34th Avenue until they get to Pike Street and the Madrona Business District.

Rainbow Minicakes & Obamacakes Served at Cupcake Royale

In appreciation of the approval of Referendum 74 this week after elections in Washington State, Cupcake Royale on Capitol Hill is inviting the community to come out and celebrate, and dive into a free piece of what they’re claiming is the world’s largest rainbow cake (shaped in the state of Washington with Rainbow sprinkles on top!).

The cake will be cut at 3:00PM this afternoon and slices will be served until it’s gone. If you miss the freebies, but still want to celebrate, all Cupcake Royale locations, including Madrona, are serving “Gaybies” mini rainbow cupcakes, and Obamacakes now through Sunday.
