Multiple Car Break-ins in Madrona

break inThere have been multiple car break-ins in the Madrona area recently. Two nights ago Kristine Losh walked back to her car which was parked on 31st Ave between Pine and Olive to find the driver’s side door and tailgate were both ajar. After taking a look, Kristine does not believe anything was taken. She reported the incident online with the Seattle Police Department which has an online method of reporting small incidents as this one. www.seattle.gov/police/report/default.htm She hopes that if enough people report these incidents that the area will get more attention and those responsible for the break-ins will be caught.

Cars were also broken in at or around 36th and Schubert, E Terrace and Erie, 32nd and Pine, 34th and Union.

Outdoor Dining for Madrona Residents

Seattle WeatherWith summer around the corner and the upcoming (knock on wood) sunny weather that is expected for Seattle, we wanted to remind everyone of the great Madrona restaurants where you can sit outside and enjoy the sun.  Here is a link – Outside Dining – to a blog we wrote last June about great local Seattle restaurants where you can enjoy the warm weather.  The blog mentions everything from Cactus in Madison Park, to St. Clouds’ hidden back lawn in the middle of Madrona, to BluWater Bistro down in Leschi.  In re-reading the article, we realize we failed to mention the deck at Daniel’s Broiler where you can watch boats coming and going to the Leschi Marina.  There are might be others that we are missing, but check out the link above to “Outside Dining” to read about some of the great options we do have.

Madrona Blossoms Are Up!

madrona blossomsMadrona Blossoms went up this past Mayfair weekend, and are now a lovely addition to the streets of the Madrona business district.

These baskets are made possible by the Madrona Community Council, and take a year to grow and water throughout the summertime, and they look quite nice and full this year! If you’re around this Memorial Day weekend, head on over to Molly Moon’s for a scoop, and check out the baskets. madrona blossoms

Love Gardening? Madrona Playfield Needs Your Help

When renovations on Madrona Playfield were coming to an end nearly a decade ago, one local woman stepped up to the plate and volunteered to upkeep the raised gardens located at 34th and Spring St entrance to the Playfield. Mary Gallwey is a retired ombudsman of Washington State University, and helped take the gardens from the pile of construction debris and poor soil conditions, to guiding the gardens to flourish today. garden tools

Mary was awarded Madrona Community Council’s Local Hero Award this year for her dedicated work in the gardens, but she is finding it harder and harder to manage the upkeep these days. She and the MCC are now searching for someone (or a few folks with green thumbs) to take over the garden maintenance, which includes pruning, weeding, replanting, and the occasional run in with the local Parks Department. If you’re able to offer some time in the garden, please contact the MCC at madronanews@gmail.com for further details. Mary is available to offer her knowledge of the gardens, and help those willing to take over for her in the Playfield.

After Mayfair Happenings

There is a lot going on in Madrona this weekend that we don’t want you to miss out on! If you’re looking for something to do after Mayfair festivities are over tomorrow, head over to Davenport for a glass of champagne and check out their Grand Opening Party. If you’re hungry for some tunes with your snacks, head over to Bottlehouse for their after Mayfair block party, where they will have plenty of bloodys & mimosa specials, and kid friendly floaty drinks for the little ones from 1-7pm! Happy hour specials will run 12-3, so it wouldn’t be a bad idea to head down before the bands come on and grab a seat. bottlehouse

As a thank you for stopping by, customers will be treated to opening day gifts courtesy of Eminence Organic. The studio is run by Renae Berg, of Mt Baker’s Dahlia Spa, and with nearly a decade of experience under her belt, Renae knows the ins and outs of healthy skin care regimens for all types of skin, organic skincare products, and strives to be a gentle waxer.

Davenport Madrona Grand Opening Party After Mayfair

If you’re looking for something to do in the evening after Mayfair this Saturday, the same folks who brought us Hitchcock opened another storefront at 1137 34th Ave in April, but have since shut their doors until this weekend, in preparation for their grand opening celebration. Davenport  appears to be selling household items like stationary, photo frames, baskets etc. and you can expect the same quality products they’ve hand selected for their Hitchcock store. davenport

They have partnered with Don Goble of Weld and Glue to supply his handcrafted boxes made out of steel and plywood, that could be quite unique for a jewelry box. Their grand opening party is this Saturday from 6:00-9:00pm, and they’ll have plenty of champagne and hors d-oeuvres to go around for all who come out to support. If you stop by this weekend, let us know what you think!
