Mary was awarded Madrona Community Council’s Local Hero Award this year for her dedicated work in the gardens, but she is finding it harder and harder to manage the upkeep these days. She and the MCC are now searching for someone (or a few folks with green thumbs) to take over the garden maintenance, which includes pruning, weeding, replanting, and the occasional run in with the local Parks Department. If you’re able to offer some time in the garden, please contact the MCC at madronanews@gmail.com for further details. Mary is available to offer her knowledge of the gardens, and help those willing to take over for her in the Playfield.

Holiday Skincare, Madrona’s Holistic skincare studio in the former Sage Salon space will also have it’s opening during Mayfair, and invites everyone to come and enjoy the new decor. As a thank you for stopping by, customers will be treated to opening day gifts courtesy of Eminence Organic. The studio is run by Renae Berg, of Mt Baker’s Dahlia Spa, and with nearly a decade of experience under her belt, Renae knows the ins and outs of healthy skin care regimens for all types of skin, organic skincare products, and strives to be a gentle waxer.

Madrona Mayfair is organized by the non-profit Madrona Community Council.  Everything is free although there will be donation boxes scattered throughout the area to help offset costs of the event.  Donation boxes to support Madrona Mayfair will be clearly marked.

Food will be available for purchase from the local restaurants at the park.

They have partnered with Don Goble of Weld and Glue to supply his handcrafted boxes made out of steel and plywood, that could be quite unique for a jewelry box. Their grand opening party is this Saturday from 6:00-9:00pm, and they’ll have plenty of champagne and hors d-oeuvres to go around for all who come out to support. On May 18, the festivities began at 8:00am with a Pancake Breakfast at Madrona K-8 School. The Parade line up begins at 9:15am at Larkins Park. Many activities and events are available at 9:30am such as pony rides, face painting, bouncy house, break dancing instruction and build your own bird house. Charles the Clown will perform at 10:00am in the Shelterhouse Lawn and the Reptile Man will perform directly after Charles at 10:30am. Recess Monkeys will perform live in the Playfield at 12:00pm. Admission to the show is free!

Many Madrona restaurants and organizations will be their time and labor to sell delicious food and treats . All profits are donated to the MCC to help support Mayfair activities. Some of the participating restaurants include Restaurant Bea, Pritty Boys Family Pizzeria and St. Clouds. Hi Spot Cafe, Trophy Cupcakes as well as Cupcake Royale are just a few of those who are donating their treats to be sold at the bake sale.

Here is in part what the manager of the Youth Program for Sounders FC told us about the camps:

Our goal is to make sure young kids have as much fun as possible while playing soccer at camp. We do our best to get a player from the Sounders FC team to come out and meet the kids and sign autographs. All kids who come to camp get a soccer ball, a t-shirt, a lunchbox, and chances at a lot of other prizes throughout the week. Feel free to contact me about more information. I am sure some kids in the Madrona area have been to our soccer camps in the past, but I was hoping to share this information with as many families in the area as possible.
