Central Area Block Party Coming To 23rd & Cherry 9/27

Central Dist. Block PartyAs the main north-south thoroughfare that runs through the Central District, 23rd Avenue truly is the spine of the neighborhood, connecting the commercial hubs at Union, Cherry, and Jackson streets and serving as a link to Capitol Hill and the Rainier Valley. The adjacent blocks are home to the rich mix of organizations that give the neighborhood its character, such as Pratt Fine Arts Center, the Wood Technology Center, Coyote Central, Garfield High School, and Central Cinema. On September 27, come and gather with your neighbors at the central hub of 23rd and Cherry for the Central Area Block Party to celebrate our diverse community with live music, food trucks, an art walk, kids activities, and more!

This will also be a great opportunity to learn all about the 23rd Avenue Action Plan, which aims to make the Central District a healthier, more livable place for its residents through new urban design and rezoning. Many organizations throughout central Seattle gave input on the plan, including the Madrona and Leschi community councils, so its impact is not limited to the area directly adjoining 23rd.

The block party is free and will run from 10:00 a.m. through 6:00 p.m., so you’ll have plenty of opportunity to stop by throughout the day. Read up on the 23rd Avenue Action plan and come ready to give your input and have some fun with your neighbors!

Madrona is One of Top Seattle Neighborhoods for Same-Sex Couples

I came across an article in the Seattle PI which asked “Which neighborhoods are Seattle gayest?”  The answer is for same-sex male couples 98122 which includes Madrona and Leschi is second only to Capitol Hill and the Broadway area.  Same-sex male couples make up 4.5% of Capitol Hill and Broadway households while it makes up 4.1% of 98122 households.  According to the article, census data shows that 0.6% of the nation’s 117 million households are same-sex households.  Click the link above to read more on this topic.
