Students from Garfield High School’s advanced photography class have selected their best work to be displayed at the Central District location of Broadcast Coffee in October and November, and will be holding a show opening on Monday, October 13. The whole community is invited to attend the event, which will run from 4:00-7:00 p.m. If you can’t make it on the 13th, stop by for a coffee anytime during October or November to check out the exhibit! Broadcast Coffee is located at 1918 E Yesler Way.
The colorful and springy Madrona Mayfair poster is getting us extra excited for everyone’s favorite spring event, coming Saturday, May 10! This 38-year-old Madrona tradition attracts as many as 500 families from the Madrona/Central District area, and provides a great opportunity to celebrate our beautiful neighborhood.
Here is the agenda for the day:
- 9:15 a.m. : Parade line-up at Al Larkins Park (34th & Pike)
- 9:30 a.m. : Parade begins!
- 10:00 a.m. : Charles the Clown Show @ The Shelterhouse
- 10:30 a.m. : Reptile Man show @ The Shelterhouse
- 12:00 p.m. : Recess Monkey Concert
Other activities for the day include, break dancing instruction, a yo-yo contest, pony rides, face painting, and a photo booth. Mayfair screen printing is also being offered, so bring a t-shirt or tote bag!
While Mayfair is free to attend, it costs the Madrona Community Council about $4,000 to produce, and it couldn’t be done without its neighborhood sponsors. This year’s sponsors include Ewing & Clark real estate, Harvard Avenue Preschool, Seattle Orthodontics, Molly Moon, Lakeview Kids’ Dentistry, Madrona Dining and Sipping Society, and Cambium Landscape.
