Happy May Day, everyone! The first of the month means that Madrona Mayfair is just around the corner, taking place next Saturday, May 10. Along with the bike parade and Recess Monkey performance, the Madrona K-8 silent auction and raffle are going to be big draws this year, so make sure to buy a few raffle tickets and bid on some of the amazing auction items. Here’s a small sampling of what you’ll have a chance to bid on!
Don’t forget to enter the raffle, as well, for a chance to win the grand prize – a trip to warm and sunny PALM SPRINGS! Also up for grabs in the raffle are a Microsoft Surface tablet and Recess Monkey Dance Kits. Raffle tickets are $5.00.
There are MANY more auction items available, so make sure to stop by the auction site at the Madrona playground between 10:00 and 11:30 on the day of Mayfair to check everything out. All funds raised will go toward supporting arts and music enrichment programming, providing classroom technology and supplies and covering field trip expenses at Madrona K-8.
According to Madrona residents, Chuck’s Hop Shop is already seeing success after their soft opening last weekend at their new location on 20th & Union. Residents have boasted that the bar currently has 20 beers on tap and many in a huge cold case that lines the back wall. They plan on having 49 beers on tap when they’re open to full capacity, and if you’re gluten intolerant (or just don’t care for beer) they also have a smaller cooler filled with hard cider, many of them local. Chuck’s has a family friendly atmosphere, welcoming children and dogs at their tables.
They are also planning to serve a selection of food items such as bratwursts. Chuck’s other location in Greewood has been successfully running since 2010. It is reassuring that the Hop Shop has patrons filling the tables even before their official opening, so hopefully beer lovers in the neighborhood will make this a successful new spot for a cold brew. If you have stopped in for a cold one, we would love to hear your feedback!
The Central District will soon be welcoming the new Chuck’s Hop Shop in October! It will be located in the empty Copymaster building on the corner of 20th and Union. The owner, Chuck Shin, currently operates the Chuck’s 85th Street Market in Greenwood where you can find 30 beers on tap and close to 1,000 bottles for sale – most of which are local beers. Chuck’s Hop Shop is planned to have 50 taps and possibly more beer selection than Chuck’s 85th Street Market has. They plan to host food trucks everyday, offer outdoor seating as well as serve ice cream. Chuck’s will be open to all ages in order to be family-friendly. Those of you excited to try out many of the beers at the new location, stay tuned for more information regarding its opening date.
