Madrona Artwalk – Saturday

Madrona ArtwalkMadrona Artwalk is this Saturday November 9th.  The artwalk is new to the Madrona neighborhood, this being only the second event, but look for the artwalk every 2nd Saturday of the month between 2-5pm.  This month there is a lot of cool happenings coinciding with the artwalk.  For example, Conrow Porcelain Studio, across 34th Avenue from Pritty Boys Pizza, is hosting their annual show this Saturday.  Be sure to stop by and admire their stunning pottery.  In addition, Hammer + Awl, the independent men’s accessory boutique located in the new Pike Station, will be participating in the artwalk as well as hosting a trunk show from 6 to 9 PM.  Besides these special events, many other Madrona shops and restaurants will be participating in the art walk including Kismet Salon, Madrona Wine Merchants, Juniper, etc.  Take a gander down 34th Avenue on Saturday and visit all the local participants.

Nena’s Gift Shop Literally Broken Into

Seattle PoliceSome startling news; another Madrona Business was literally broken into this weekend. Nena’s Gift Shop next to Verité on 34th Avenue near Spring Street was burglarized on Saturday night. From what information I was able to gather, it seems that only $40 was stolen from the cash register, however the damage sustained to the glass front door is estimated to be about $800. This incident however, reminds me of the slew of break-ins and burglaries that hit the Madrona neighborhood in September of 2011, where Kismet Salon and Juniper located near the tennis courts at the Madrona Playground were burglarized of nearly $45,000 worth of high end clothing, jewelry and cosmetics. Just a few days afterward, Glassyaby’s offices on 34th Avenue were broken into along with several other offices where electronics such as computers and other items of value were stolen.  Hopefully, this is not the beginning of another rash of break-ins.

Reminder: Merry in Madrona Tomorrow

Merry in MadronaHappy Holidays!  Support your local Madrona businesses this holiday season, and to kick it off this Saturday is Merry in Madrona.  This Saturday, Madrona shops will be open until 6 PM and many will be offering special gifts and treats.  For example, Kismet Salon and Spa (map) will be open from 9 AM to 6 PM this Saturday and will have holiday bazaar with local crafts and artisists, Aveda Pure Priviledge double points, great gifts, service specials, and a raffle.

Also, on Saturday do not forget about:

UPDATE: Madrona Shop Burglaries Featured on Komo News

Komo News has an in depth feature on the rash of burglaries that have hit the Madrona Business District.  Check out the video – there is a lot of shots of the Madrona neighborhood as well as interviews of several shop owners including Heather and Lisa from Kismet and Juniper.  Komo also mentions the break in I blogged about yesterday.

Burglars Steal $45,000 from Two Madrona Shops

Seattle PolicemanTwo Madrona Shops, Kismet Salon and Juniper, across from the tennis courts at the Madrona Playground were burglarized this past weekend.  The thieves got away with an estimated $40,000 to $45,000 of women’s clothing, jewelry, beauty supplies, cash and a bottle of apple cider.  Unfortunately for the burglars they stole the cider but left the bottle which may lead to their identities.  Witnesses saw at least two people fleeing the scene including a slight man who could fit throw a small window which was the original entry point.

Here is the story on Kiro Website about the Madrona burglary.
