Neighbors have been wondering about the operating status of Leschi’s resident Thai restaurant, Sabai, reporting that it closed suddenly in mid-February. A little digging did not unearth much new information about the restaurant, as its website has been deactivated and its listed phone number rings through to neighboring BluWater Bistro. Its prime waterfront location and positive diner reviews have us hoping it will reopen. Leave us a comment if you have any information about its closing or possible reopening.

All Purpose Pizza in Leschi Area to Close

Zaw PizzaThe owner of Leschi’s All Purpose Pizza announced that the restaurant is closing at the end of the day, Monday, October 15th.  The kid-friendly restaurant has been serving the area for over seven years and has support the Leschi community during that time.  Here is the email that was sent out announcing the closure of All Purpose Pizza:

Subject: All Purpose Pizza

Dear Friends/Family of APP,
Shocking as it will seem, I have decided to close APP after service (9pm) Monday October 15th. After 7 years of business I have decided it is time to move on and unburden myself and the debt that has been amassing since 2008 and the economic crash. I have done everything I can over these past years to stay in business, waiting for brighter days, but the new economic reality doesn’t mesh with my overhead/bottom line which is, unfortunately, not negotiable. The deficit has been incredibly daunting and it is time for me to admit defeat. I know it will leave a huge hole in the community, a place I have called home for so many years. It is extremely painful for me to make this decision and what makes it harder all of you: the people who started off as patrons, became friends, and are now family. Your love and support has meant the world to me over these years and it is because of that that I have made it this far. For that I can’t thank you enough.

I will be around tonight (Friday) and throughout the weekend (looking for sitter now). I hope that you can make it in so I can say goodbye and sling one last pizza hurrah!

Much love,
Kedra

Please support All Purpose Pizza in their last few days of business.

Daniel’s Broilers Looking to Expand

Daniel's BroilerDaniel’s Broiler is looking to expand beyond their three restaurants.  The original Daniel’s Broiler was first opened in Leschi in 1980 by the late Daniel Sandal and later was expanded to both Bellevue and Lake Union.  According to the Puget Sound Business Journal article, the new location is not known yet or at least the current owners, Schwartz Brother Restaurants, are not telling but any new Daniel’s Broiler will have their famous “world-class views.”

Founder of Daniel’s Restaurant, Daniel Sandal, Dies at 71

Daniel Sandal, Seattle restauranteur, passed away recently at the age of 71.  Sandal started in the food industry at his grandfather’s butcher shop in the Pike Place Market and later sold meat to some of Seattle’s most famous restaurants including The Space Needle, Trader Vic’s, Canlis, and even Dick’s.  Sandal went on to start some famous Seattle restaurants himself including Benjamin’s as well as Daniel’s Broiler Prime Steak and Chops in Leschi in 1980.

Prime Wine Night at Daniel’s in Leschi

DanielsDaniel’s Broiler Prime Steaks & Chops is well known as one Seattle’s premier steak restaurants.  Probably the best known is Daniel’s on Lake Union or even in Bellevue, but the original is Daniel’s in Leschi.  Just minutes from Madrona, located at the Leschi Marina is a world-class steakhouse with a great happy hour seven days a week (4 PM to 6:30 PM) and on Sunday is the Prime Wine Night with all bottles of wine under $100 are half off.  Madrona has great wine at Wilridge on 34th and Union, but if you feel like enjoying your glass of wine with a nice steak head down to Daniel’s Broiler in Leschi on Sunday nights.
