Leschi & Madrona Park Bathrooms Destroyed by Fireworks

MadronaSeattle Police are asking for help to find the vandals that caused thousands of dollars of damages to public bathrooms in Madrona Park and Leschi Park.  On the 4th of July, vandals used fireworks to blow up toilets at both park locations.  (See video of news story).  Other damage was also done.  For example at Madrona Park, the dumpster had fire damage including having the plastic lid completely melted away.

Seattle Parks normally lock all bathrooms during the Independence Day, but decided to leave them open this year since parks have heavy use during the holiday.  Hopefully, a few vandals will not change this new policy for the future.  Click the link to Komo News to read more about the destruction at Madrona Park and Leschi Park.

All Purpose Pizza in Leschi Area to Close

Zaw PizzaThe owner of Leschi’s All Purpose Pizza announced that the restaurant is closing at the end of the day, Monday, October 15th.  The kid-friendly restaurant has been serving the area for over seven years and has support the Leschi community during that time.  Here is the email that was sent out announcing the closure of All Purpose Pizza:

To: undisclosed-recipients
Subject: All Purpose Pizza

Dear Friends/Family of APP,
Shocking as it will seem, I have decided to close APP after service (9pm) Monday October 15th. After 7 years of business I have decided it is time to move on and unburden myself and the debt that has been amassing since 2008 and the economic crash. I have done everything I can over these past years to stay in business, waiting for brighter days, but the new economic reality doesn’t mesh with my overhead/bottom line which is, unfortunately, not negotiable. The deficit has been incredibly daunting and it is time for me to admit defeat. I know it will leave a huge hole in the community, a place I have called home for so many years. It is extremely painful for me to make this decision and what makes it harder all of you: the people who started off as patrons, became friends, and are now family. Your love and support has meant the world to me over these years and it is because of that that I have made it this far. For that I can’t thank you enough.

I will be around tonight (Friday) and throughout the weekend (looking for sitter now). I hope that you can make it in so I can say goodbye and sling one last pizza hurrah!

Much love,
Kedra

Please support All Purpose Pizza in their last few days of business.

Daniel’s Broilers Looking to Expand

Daniel's BroilerDaniel’s Broiler is looking to expand beyond their three restaurants.  The original Daniel’s Broiler was first opened in Leschi in 1980 by the late Daniel Sandal and later was expanded to both Bellevue and Lake Union.  According to the Puget Sound Business Journal article, the new location is not known yet or at least the current owners, Schwartz Brother Restaurants, are not telling but any new Daniel’s Broiler will have their famous “world-class views.”

Madrona is One of Top Seattle Neighborhoods for Same-Sex Couples

I came across an article in the Seattle PI which asked “Which neighborhoods are Seattle gayest?”  The answer is for same-sex male couples 98122 which includes Madrona and Leschi is second only to Capitol Hill and the Broadway area.  Same-sex male couples make up 4.5% of Capitol Hill and Broadway households while it makes up 4.1% of 98122 households.  According to the article, census data shows that 0.6% of the nation’s 117 million households are same-sex households.  Click the link above to read more on this topic.

Leschi Art Walk Next Saturday

Leschi Art WalkThe Leschi Art Walk, sponsored by the Leschi Community Council, is this coming Saturday, June 9th, from 11 AM to 4 PM in front of the businesses along the lake near where Lake Washington Blvd and Lakeside Avenue meet.
