Madrona Blossoms – Needs You!

madrona blossomsMadrona Blossoms needs your help.  Madrona Blossoms has helped beautified the business district of Madrona over the years, but the time has come to pass the baton to organize the baskets. Many people have help keep the Madrona Blossoms going over the years including, but limited to, Suzanne Sheppard, Mike Walker of Hi Spot, John Platt from St. Clouds, but probably the heaviest load has been carried by Marie Doyle and Andrea Matus-Magee.  Marie and Andrea have done the marketing/communication to raise the money, tracked the donations and thanked the donors.  After ten years, Marie and Andrea are ready to step down and are asking for volunteers that can keep the tradition moving forward.  If interested, please feel free to attend the next Madrona Community Council meeting at the Madrona Playfield Shelterhouse (corner of Spring and 34th next to tennis courts) on Tuesday night, October 7th, at 7:15 PM or if you prefer comment on this blog and we will pass your name along.

Madrona Blossoms

Madrona Flower BasketsAs Katharine Hepburn famously said “The calla lilies are in bloom again.”  Well, there are no calla lilies (that I know of) but the Madrona Business District is looking great now that the hanging flower baskets are back for their 7th year.  Madrona Blossoms are made possible by donations by Madrona neighborhood residence and local businesses.  Each basket costs approximately $275 a year to grow and water throughout the summer.  Donations are still being collected.  If interested mail a check payable to “Madrona Blossoms, MCC” – any amount is appreciated – to Madrona Blossoms Treasurer, 1121 37th Avenue, Seattle, WA 98122.  If you have questions or want to help with the baskets, email Marie Doyle.

Madrona Blossoms Coming in May

Madrona Flower BasketsThe flower baskets that decorated the Madrona business district the previous 5 years will once again beautify the storefronts and street lamps along 34th Avenue and Union Street.  The baskets have been planted and will be ready sometime this May.

Donations are still being collected to pay for the baskets.  Each basket costs $275 to plant and maintain.  Look for a donation envelope next month in the Madrona Newsletter to make a tax deductible donation or call 323-6128 and ask how you can help.
