The participating restaurants in this year’s Dine Out Madrona fundraiser make it possible to support the Madrona K-8 PTSA at breakfast, lunch, dinner, and dessert. Get your morning coffee at Cortona Café or Cupcake Royale/Verite; grab a midday salad or sandwich at the Hi Spot Café; head to happy hour at Bottlehouse; sit down to dinner at St. Clouds, the Madrona Eatery & Alehouse, or Assimba; all topped off with dessert at neighboring Molly Moon’s ice cream. These participating restaurants have generously agreed to donate a portion of the day’s sales to the Madrona K-8 PTSA., so make sure to visit at least one of them on the 7th!
Art programs are often the last to get funded at many schools, but art remains an important facet of students’ educations. Madrona K-8’s art teacher, Tamia Sheldon, has started a fundraising campaign through donorschoose.org to raise money to buy art supplies for this year’s planned projects such as sculpting, ceramics, printmaking, and painting with acrylics. She would like to raise enough money to buy canvases, supplies to make custom book bags, clay materials, and paints, and needs about $2,300 to fulfill her orders. So, if you have a student at Madrona, or you would simply like to support Mrs. Sheldon and her art class, visit donorschoose.org to make a donation!
Next time you order a delicious cupcake at Cupcake Royale in Madrona, tell them to “put a paw on it!”. For an extra $1, staff will add a panther-paw cupcake topper and donate that dollar to Madrona K-8 to help pay for the new playground mural painted by local artist Ryan Henry Ward, who you may know better from his signature, which is simply ‘Henry.’ He has painted more than 140 of his recognizable murals on walls, garages, and even cars all over Seattle.
Glassybaby has already generously donated 50 percent of the cost of the mural, but the school is looking for your help in raising the remaining amount, and what better catalyst than cupcakes. This mural certainly brightens up the playground on dreary, rainy days, so consider helping fund its creation! This promotion is only valid at the Madrona location of Cupcake Royale (1101 34th Ave.).
Madrona K-8’s new full-time music teacher, Stephan Childers, is working hard to bring the pieces together to build the foundation of Madrona’s music program. He has the most important element – enthusiastic students – but he needs your help to get the technology that will make their voices heard. Mr. Childers has started a fundraising campaign through DonorsChoose.org for a new speaker system that will bring a professional sound to their two upcoming holiday concerts and will last the school for many years.
An anonymous donor has already pledged half of the nearly $2,500 needed for the system, but that donation will only be fulfilled if the remainder is pledged in the next seven days. A similar fundraising effort for a wireless microphone for the school was completed in just 24 hours, so let’s keep the momentum going to get Madrona’s music students a great sound system! Submit your pledge here and enter the word “INSPIRE” when you check out.

Almost anywhere you eat on 34th Avenue on April 8 will benefit Madrona K-8 School as part of its 6th annual Dine Out fundraiser. Participating restaurants will be donating a portion of the day’s sales to the school, which will be using the proceeds directly to support arts and enrichment programming, including funding two full-time artists in residence from Art Corps, the largest nonprofit arts education program in Seattle.
All you need to do to participate is let the restaurant know you’re there for Dine Out, and enjoy your meal! Participating 34th Avenue restaurants are: Bistro Turkuaz, Bottlehouse, Cupcake Royale/Verite, Hi Spot, Madrona Eatery and Alehouse, Naam, Pritty Boys Family Pizzeria, and St. Cloud’s. Barrio, on 12th Avenue on Capitol Hill will also be participating. Reservations are recommended if you choose a restaurant that takes them.
Dine Out Madrona is sponsored by the Madrona K-8 PTSA.
