  • Recap of Annual Wine Tasting/MCC Fundraiser
  • Discussion of the 40th annual Madrona Mayfair. Please come with ideas for special activities to commemorate this anniversary event for the neighborhood.
  • General community updates including: SDOT request for a traffic-speed study on 34th Avenue, an update on SDOT traffic plan along Union Street (comments from the SDOT/BRT Open House in November), discuss lighting plan – SDOT replacement plan for acorn lights in the Madrona Business District, results of Madrona PTSA grant for reader board on Union, and an update on the stage project at Madrona Park.

  • Final planning for the annual wine tasting fundraiser event taking place November 14
  • Initial planning for the 40th (!) annual Madrona Mayfair
  • General community updates, including the SDOT request for a traffic-speed study on 34th Avenue, and update on SDOT traffic plan along Union Street
  • Annual elections for Madrona Community Council officers

MCCIt’s time to get back in the swing of things for fall in the neighborhood, and this month’s Madrona Community Council meeting will be held next Tuesday, September 8. MCCThis month’s Madrona Community Council meeting is taking place tomorrow night, March 3rd, at the Madrona Playfield Shelterhouse at 7:15pm. Join the council and your neighbors to discuss the following topics:

  • Discussion of how 23rd Ave construction will affect Madrona (representatives from SDOT)
  • Trees and Sidewalks – discussion/approval of letter to city regarding future funding
  • Recap of Neighborhood Appreciation Day
  • Discussion of emergent need for a Design Editor for Madrona News and a Volunteer Coordinator for Mayfair on May 16th.
  • Brief neighborhood updates: Mayfair, 34th Ave Parklet, interaction with BOOM, etc.
  • Review of Kraus Fund Applications
  • Budget report
  • New Business

Celebrate Halloween In Madrona Tonight!

carnivalIn just hours the streets of Madrona will be filled with little ghosts and goblins (and probably quite a few Princess Elsas), because it’s Halloween! Hopefully everyone has their costumes – and umbrellas – ready for trick-or-treating and the scavenger hunt at Madrona businesses tonight. Meet at the Shelterhouse at 5:00 p.m. for some sweet treats before the festivities begin!

bottlehouseBottlehouse will also have a family-friendly “Boos & Brews” celebration from 5:00-7:00, so make a stop there with your little ones sometime tonight for more trick-or-treating and bobbing for apples. The festivities will continue after 7:00 for adults, with food, beer, and other beverages in the beer garden. Costumes encouraged!

If you have a student at St. Therese, the school’s Halloween Carnival is also taking place tonight from 4:00-7:00 p.m.

Even if the weather doesn’t cooperate, it should be a fun night to see everyone all dressed up! Happy Halloween!

Madrona Community Council Meeting Next Tuesday 9/9

September’s Madrona Community Council Meeting is next Tuesday the 9th, and here’s what’s on the agenda for the night:

  • Status and next steps concerning the Restricted Parking Zone (RPZ) at 34th & Union
  • Updates on neighborhood issues: the 23rd Avenue Action Plan, the parklet on 34th Avenue, the SDOT sidewalks and trees study, and cuts to Metro Route #2
  • Updates on recent and upcoming events: Madrona Concert Series, Madrona K-8 events, Halloween on 34th, fall wine-tasting event at glassybaby on Nov. 15, co-host/candidate issue forum with the Mount Baker and Leschi community councils
  • Report from bylaws committee
  • Call for volunteers for a possible neighborhood garden tour

  • Quanlin Hu of the Department of Planning and Development will be present to give an update on the 23rd Avenue Action Plan, which concerns the areas between Cherry and Jackson streets.
  • Update on the proposed parklet outside the Bottlehouse and Hi Spot on 34th Avenue

  • Discussion of future events, including the neighborhood yard sale, neighborhood BBQ, movie in the park, wine tasting fundraiser logistics, etc.
