Welcome the newest addition to Madrona’s business district, Salua Atelier Lingerie, at their grand opening celebration this Saturday, February 14 – just in time for your last-minute Valentine’s Day gifts! While Salua’s products are carried in boutiques all over the world, this will be their first exclusive store, and we’re happy to have them in the neighborhood. Join them for champagne and hors d’oeuvres on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., or shop extended hours tonight until 9:30 p.m. The shop is located at 1406 34th Ave., next door to the Madrona Laundromat. Welcome, Salua!
Do you want to run a pizza restaurant in Madrona? As many of you know, Pritty Boys Pizza closed, but the business is available for purchase. We should have known this was coming: the owner’s Madrona home recently went on the market and the rumor is they moved across the lake.
We hope someone buys the restaurant….we already miss the fun family atmosphere, the pizza, and our personal favorite: the broccoli. First the Madrona Ale House gets rid of their toys, now this! Madrona families with young children are panicking.
We wish the Pritty Boy’s owners well. They quietly supported Madrona activities such as Mayfair, Madrona Dine Out for Madrona K-8, and recently paid for a large portion of the holiday decorations for the Madrona business district.
Where has the time gone? Ten years ago Cupcake Royale open it first store here in our Madrona neighborhood. In honor of this huge milestone, Cupcake Royale would like to celebrate with its customers on December 9th by giving a free Dance Party Babycake and fabulous deals on merchandise at all seven Cupcake Royale locations. The real celebration (in our opinion) will be that night at the Madrona location from 6:00pm to 9:00pm where you can join the owner and founder, Jody Hall, for a dance party that will include dancing, light appetizers, bubbly and fun! Come join the party, share your stories of Cupcake Royale in your life, hang out with friends and neighbors as well as Jody and the team, enjoy a glass of bubbly and dance to your heart’s content. We hope to see you there!
Support our local Madrona businesses this coming weekend on Small Business Saturday (November 30th). There are a ton of reasons to shop locally: keeping your dollars in the local economy, building entrepreneurship, supporting vibrant neighborhoods, etc. There is even a local website that helps you find local Seattle stores, although their list is far from exhaustive. So this Saturday, buy a coffee from Hi-Spot, get a drink at Bottlehouse, buy a meal at Turkuaz, St. Clouds, Madrona Alehouse, Café Soleil, or Pritty Boys Pizza, and get your dessert from Cupcake Royale or Molly Moons. Purchase a piece of art at Conrow Porcelain, shop for a Christmas gift for dad at Hammer+Awl or for mom at Hitchcock, buy a gift for your hard-to-buy-for co-worker at Nena’s gift shop, and find a bottle of wine at Madrona Wine Merchant to take over to a friend’s house for dinner. There are a ton of Madrona stores, shops and businesses we are leaving out (check out our likes on our Madrona Facebook for others), but shop locally this Saturday and we know you will find everything you are looking for.
Time is running out to shop at Madrona Farmers Market this year. The farmers market runs every Friday afternoon from Spring through the Summer; the last one this year will be Friday, September 27th. Thus you still have time to buy your favorite produce, but do not forget about the honey biscuits. Art Stone, who first started making biscuits with his grandmother in North Carolina when he was 4 years old, founded Honey Biscuits and has sold his biscuits throughout the city including previously at Beecher’s in Pike Place and Verite Coffee. Now you can find his biscuits at many of the local farmers market including Madrona Farmers Market. Craving biscuits? Walk down to the Madrona Farmers Market this afternoon and look for the honey biscuits.
Art Stone making “The MacGregor” an oversized biscuits include chunks of Bavarian Meats bacon, Beecher’s Flagship cheese, and organic caramelized onions:
Several of the Madrona businesses came together and produced a map of the Madrona Business District. The map features most of the Madrona restaurant and shops located between Al Larkins Park and Madrona Playground. The map includes Pritty Boys Pizza, Bottlehouse, Hi Spot, Molly Moons, Hitchcock Madrona, Naam, Glassybaby, Turkuaz, Kismet Salon, Juniper, Cupcake Royale, Nena Gifts, St. Clouds, Davenport, and Restaurant Bea. Unfortunately there are some noticeable exclusions including Cafe Soleil and Madrona Ale House; nevertheless, it reminds us of the many options that our Madrona neighborhood has to offer. If you want a map, stop by one of the participating businesses and pick one up.
Some startling news; another Madrona Business was literally broken into this weekend. Nena’s Gift Shop next to Verité on 34th Avenue near Spring Street was burglarized on Saturday night. From what information I was able to gather, it seems that only $40 was stolen from the cash register, however the damage sustained to the glass front door is estimated to be about $800. This incident however, reminds me of the slew of break-ins and burglaries that hit the Madrona neighborhood in September of 2011, where Kismet Salon and Juniper located near the tennis courts at the Madrona Playground were burglarized of nearly $45,000 worth of high end clothing, jewelry and cosmetics. Just a few days afterward, Glassyaby’s offices on 34th Avenue were broken into along with several other offices where electronics such as computers and other items of value were stolen. Hopefully, this is not the beginning of another rash of break-ins.
Today everyone in the community is invited to a farewell and thank you party for Birth and Beyond and owner, Ms. Lyndsey Starkey. Birth and Beyond has had a retail storefront to go with their classroom, which offers pregnancy & new family education and support, but will be closing their doors tomorrow and moving forward solely as an educational business.
Birth and Beyond has been supporting families for the past 18 years, and Lyndsey would love to invite all past clients, and anyone interested in the community to come down to celebrate this new chapter in her life. Tomorrow is the last day the storefront will be open, and several of the classes will be moving right next door to be held at Genius: A Baby Academy. The farewell event will be held at 4pm this afternoon at Birth and Beyond in Madison Valley, come on down and join the party!
Happy Holidays! Support your local Madrona businesses this holiday season, and to kick it off this Saturday is Merry in Madrona. This Saturday, Madrona shops will be open until 6 PM and many will be offering special gifts and treats. For example, Kismet Salon and Spa (map) will be open from 9 AM to 6 PM this Saturday and will have holiday bazaar with local crafts and artisists, Aveda Pure Priviledge double points, great gifts, service specials, and a raffle.
Also, on Saturday do not forget about:
It was just this month that Pagliacci’s started delivering pizza to Madrona and Leschi, but now Pritty Boys Family Pizzeria also delivers to local residences. It was announced on Madrona Moms and signs along Madison Street that Pritty Boys will now deliver. Just call them at 206-257-1319 to order food to your home. Turkey, mashed potatoes and now this…I better start running to get burn all these calories off.
