The annual Madrona Mayfair is celebrating its 40th anniversary on Saturday, May 14th 2016.  The festivities kick off at 9:30 AM with the Madrona Mayfair parade. Led by Deano the Clown, the parade starts at Al Larkins Park (34th & Pike).   Other activities will be spread throughout the morning.  For a full list of the events, see below:

Volunteers Needed For Madrona Mayfair

Looking for a great way to get involved in the Madrona community? Volunteer at Mayfair! The success of the May 10 event is dependent on community members helping out, and there are numerous opportunities to help, from manning booths, to helping with the bike parade to cleaning up afterward. Shifts that still need to be filled are:

  • Mayfair setup: 8:00 – 9:00 a.m. (10 volunteers needed)
  • Traffic control for the parade: 9:00 – 9:30 a.m. (7 volunteers)
  • Pony rides: 9:30 – 11:00 a.m. (3 volunteers)
  • Pony rides: 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. (3 volunteers)
  • St. Cloud’s table: 9:30 – 11:00 a.m. (1 volunteer)
  • St. Cloud’s table: 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. (1 volunteer)
  • Hot dog stand: 9:30 – 11:00 a.m. (5 volunteers)
  • Hot dog stand: 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. (5 volunteers)
  • Bouncy house: 9:30 – 11:00 a.m. (2 volunteers)
  • Bouncy house: 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. (2 volunteers)
  • Bake sale table: 9:30 – 11:00 a.m. (4 volunteers)
  • Bake sale table 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. (4 volunteers)

More Details On Madrona Mayfair


The colorful and springy Madrona Mayfair poster is getting us extra excited for everyone’s favorite spring event, coming Saturday, May 10! This 38-year-old Madrona tradition attracts as many as 500 families from the Madrona/Central District area, and provides a great opportunity to celebrate our beautiful neighborhood.

Here is the agenda for the day:

  • 9:15 a.m. : Parade line-up at Al Larkins Park (34th & Pike)
  • 9:30 a.m. : Parade begins!
  • 10:00 a.m. : Charles the Clown Show @ The Shelterhouse
  • 10:30 a.m. : Reptile Man show @ The Shelterhouse
  • 12:00 p.m. : Recess Monkey Concert

Other activities for the day include, break dancing instruction, a yo-yo contest, pony rides, face painting, and a photo booth. Mayfair screen printing is also being offered, so bring a t-shirt or tote bag!

While Mayfair is free to attend, it costs the Madrona Community Council about $4,000 to produce, and it couldn’t be done without its neighborhood sponsors. This year’s sponsors include Ewing & Clark real estate, Harvard Avenue Preschool, Seattle Orthodontics, Molly Moon, Lakeview Kids’ Dentistry, Madrona Dining and Sipping Society, and Cambium Landscape.

Save the Date – Madrona Mayfair!

With the rain coming down hard this week, it feels like the perfect time to start getting excited for spring activities! Mark your calendars, because rain or shine the 2014 Madrona Mayfair is scheduled for Saturday May 10th from 9:30am-1:00pm. Mayfair will include a similar lineup to years past with the favored kiddie parade, pony rides, big bounce houses, clowns and various attractions along with a concert by the Recess Monkeys at the Madrona Playfield.

This year there will also be the first annual silent auction put on by Madrona K-8 and the Madrona Community Council (MCC), so come on down and check out the list of auction items. Volunteers are certainly still needed, and while several sponsors have already committed (Ewing & ClarkHarvard Avenue School, Molly Moon’s, Cambium, Lakeview Kids Dentistry, and the Madrona Dining and Sipping Society) sponsorships are still much appreciated. Volunteer Opportunities on Martin Luther King Jr. Day

A week from today, we will celebrate the work of Dr. King on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, and what better way to honor his legacy than giving back to our community?  Join United Way of King County and thousands of others across America on January 20th to honor Dr. King’s legacy, as the MLK Day of Service is a part of United We Serve, which is the President’s national call to service initiative. The initiative calls for Americans to work together to create solutions to some of our nation’s most pressing issues. You can choose from of a number of projects to give back individually, or with a group, and it’s really a wonderful and rewarding way to help the community, and meet like-minded people in the neighborhood. Different ways to help include registering as a project leader, and choosing a project that fits the bill for your group’s interests. New Pop Up Shop in Madrona

If you’ve already been browsing for Christmas presents in Madrona, you may have noticed the new storefront on 34th Ave, POP UP MADRONA. They recently had a casual opening last Wednesday, and offer artcycled jewelry, accent pillows by South End Design, and fun women’s fashion items. The shop also has unique and fun notepads, handmade cards and prints by Mary Margaret Briggs, and women’s clothing and accessories by Lysle  Style (I love the scooped neck dress!).

Their hours will be Wed-Sat 11-6, and Sun 10-5, and their grand opening celebration will be during the Madrona Artwalk this Saturday Dec 14th. Christmas Ships Are Coming to Madrona

The Argosy Christmas ships festival has been anchoring at harbors around the Puget Sound and Lake Washington since 1949, and every year we look forward to seeing the beautifully lit up ship cruise by singing holiday music in Madrona & Leschi – quite a treat for the eyes and ears! The ship will depart Leschi Marina several nights including Sun Dec 1st, Wed Dec 4th and Thursday Dec 5th if you’d like to catch a glimpse of the ship strung with holiday lights- great opportunity for a family photo opt.

If you’re around Madrona, the Christmas ship will be performing at the Madrona Beach Park on Saturday the 21st.The Choir singing aboard this ship will be the Dickens Carolers, and a parade boat will of course follow the Christmas ship en route. This is always a treat for those watching from the shore, but if you’d like to climb aboard the Christmas ship, or the Parade ship that follows, book your seat before they fill up today!

Jackson Stairs Cleaning Project This Weekend

Looking to help beautify the neighborhood this weekend? We have the perfect volunteer opportunity for you! The next stair cleanup project led by the Leschi Community Council falls this Saturday September 21st. The Community Council and volunteers will be cleaning the Jackson stairs from 35th Ave S to Lakeside, and will be meeting at the top of the stairs on 35th Ave S at 10:00am sharp. gardening

This is a great opportunity to help keep the sidewalks clear and the bushes pruned, so bring your rake and broom and head on over to help beautify the neighborhood. Garbage bags, gloves, grabbers and snacks will be provided.
